Hearthstone Alzheimer Care Residence, White Plains Assisted Living

The Hearthstone Alzheimer Care residences opened their doors in 1992 to care for those living with this memory related disease. And with over 5 million people in the United States living with Alzheimer’s, their goal is to improve the quality of life for the residents and their families through support, structure, and extensive research. What sets the Hearthstone facilities apart from others, is their consideration of every aspect of living at the community. They feel that offering a soothing and comforting environment, that provides built in memory cues, visually engaging paths, and healing gardens help residents to feel strong and confident in everyday activities. Hearthstone carefully designed the Hearthstone approach around caregiving for the heart. It is their goal to create positive, fulfilling experiences for residents and an environment that allows many of them to remain at the Hearthstone throughout their lives.

With this philosophy, they have found that the utilization of non-pharmacological treatments help improve the lives of the Alzheimer’s victims almost immediately. While still using some drug treatments, the Hearthstone focuses their attention on therapeutic treatments which include gardening, diet, exercise, environmental design, and even caregiver communication training. This program is also a major supporter in the non-pharmacological training and continuing education of the caregivers and professionals. This training helps to implement and expedite the treatment of residents every day.

Treatment Programs

Depending on which location you choose, the Hearthstone senior living facilities have four different treatment programs for residents depending on their needs and stage of the disease. Here is a breakdown of each program:

  • Hearthstone’s C-MAP Program: C-MAP stands for Cognitive Memory Achievement Program, which is a great choice for those with mild to mid stage memory loss
  • The Cognitive Strengthening Program: Those who choose this program have Mild Cognitive Impairment and Early Dementia.
  • The Life Quality Program: This program is structured with activities suitable for residents with mid stages of the disease. A specially trained staff member works with this program.
  • The Enhanced Life Program: This is suggested for residents with late stage dementia. Living here is simpler and quieter, and there is much more nursing attention.
